Both ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 numbers exist. ISBN-10 numbers are 10 digits long and were used prior to 2007, while ISBN-13 numbers are 13 digits long and have been in use since then. The transition to ISBN-13 was made to accommodate the increasing number of books being published and to provide a more comprehensive and unique identification system for books. **

The main difference between ISBN 10 and ISBN 13 is the length of the numbers. ISBN 10 consists of 10 digits, while ISBN 13 consists of 13 digits. The structure of the numbers is also different, with ISBN 10 using a single check digit at the end, and ISBN 13 using a group identifier and a country code in addition to the check digit. Additionally, ISBN 13 was introduced to accommodate the growing number of books and to align with the EAN-13 barcode system. **

Amazon provides both the ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 for books to accommodate a wider range of users and systems that may require either format for identification purposes. The ISBN-13 is the newer and more globally recognized standard, while the ISBN-10 is still commonly used in certain regions or systems. Thalia may only display the regular ISBN because it may cater to a specific market or audience that primarily uses that format for book identification. **

An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) typically consists of 13 digits, divided into five parts: the prefix element, the registration group element, the registrant element, the publication element, and the check digit. The prefix element usually starts with "978" and indicates that it is an ISBN. The registration group element identifies the country or geographic region of the publisher. The registrant element identifies the specific publisher or imprint. The publication element identifies the specific edition or format of the book. The check digit is used to validate the ISBN and ensure its accuracy. **

The ISBN with six digits is known as an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and was used prior to the introduction of the 10-digit ISBN in 1970. The six-digit ISBN system was used from 1967 to 1970 and was later expanded to the 10-digit system to accommodate the growing number of books being published. The six-digit ISBN consists of a group identifier, publisher code, and item number, and was used to uniquely identify books for cataloging and inventory purposes. **

You can sell books without an ISBN through various online platforms such as Etsy, eBay, or Amazon Marketplace. Yes, the ISBN does indicate the edition of a book. The ISBN is a unique identifier for a specific edition of a book, so each edition will have its own unique ISBN. This means that if a book is released in multiple editions, each edition will have a different ISBN. Therefore, by looking at the ISBN, you can determine which edition of the book you are dealing with. **
